2017 Maria Theresa Courage and Determination
Fri Dec 01, 2023 7:24 pm
This is a matt proof 20 Euro coin released by Muenze Osterrich in 2017. It's a part of a set but the only one I have. It's about 22g of .925 silver. Maria Theresa appears on a lot of coinage from Austria, including the eponymous Maria Theresa thalers, which have been produced as restrikes of the 1780 design since her death. Shot with 3 different lighting setups.

It's part of a set of 4 - matt proofs. I've only got this one, though.

Regardless, the one you have is eye candy.

It's certainly a nice design. One could get the rest of the set - they're available from Muenze Osterrich - but they're about 50 quid each.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I'm learning a little history through these coins you all presented.

That's quite a nice florin - I don't have any proofs, but I've got a handful of circulated florins in the VF-EF range, and a few crowns. I think McKennal's George V portrait is actually my favourite of the effigies on British coinage. A lot of folks like Wyon's young Victoria (which is nice, simple and elegant) or the Gillick or Machin portraits of Liz.
I haven't got any ancient coins, although I've been tempted to get an Owl tetradrachm from time to time.

@tray - if you're taking this with a mobile, splash out on a tripod and a clamp for the camera. On Android phones, there's a good camera app called OpenCamera that lets you do raw photos, tweak camera settings and such like. On iOS the camera app has a lot of these features already, I believe.
Yes I will and definitely should do, being lazy

They are getting very pricey. When I started sovereigns were £60 I paid about £70 for that 1927 proof florin would have been about 20 years ago. It's now 250 to 300 pound. I have a lovely set of the Manchester commonwealth games 2002. I pay £22 for itSilverlocks wrote:
That one's in pretty good nick - the obverse particularly. I find that Victorian era silver coinage like florins or crowns get quite pricey when they're in good condition, and a lot of it is quite worn. This one, the portrait on the obverse still has most of its detail.
now well over 100 when some of the modern proofs are coming down in value
