Numista Rarity Index Empty Numista Rarity Index

Sat Mar 04, 2023 3:51 pm
Hi folks,
I'm just wondering what you think of the Numista rarity index? Do you think it's accurate? I've often wondered how they come up with their ratings. Any thoughts at all? Smile

Ro you mean like change checker? Or similar places?

Those are usually based upon the mintages

Hi  @AceBullion
This is the site I'm referring to: https://en.numista.com/
When you search for a coin, towards the bottom of the page you see a heading called Get this Coin and the rarity score is under that Smile

I use that site as well, it is a GREAT tool, one of many....

They use for historical coins, what is known in existance and what has been minted. IE the year for a German 1 mark coin as an example.

so some guesswork but not much.

@Admin, I meant to ask, do you think it's accurate in its rarity scoring?

I do, I check Change Checker and Numista site.

And looked at the 50 P Kew Gardens.

I know Numista put a lot of effort into his coin information. In fact it is used a lot when I am looking for coin information. He updates that pretty quickly.

Prices regarding a coin... are subjective. I found a few sites showing different information. So not to be relied upon for pricing.

I agree about the pricing. I read somewhere that Numista’s pricing of UK coins can be way off. Good to have reassurance about the rarity index though… thank you  @Admin Smile

My pleasure, his pricing is only off because he puts soo much effort into making his site that updating all those coins would be a monster of a job.

I would love for him to be a member. I think that his site should be listed as a reference site... so I put it in the dealers section. It is a useful site for sure.

I’ll have to look for the dealers section and see what else is in there!
