Thoughts please

Hi folks,

I hope to buy my first ever gold coin this afternoon. I have narrowed my search down to three dealers - Gerrards, Hatton Garden Metals, and Atkinsons. Their prices are similar for the item I'm looking at.

I have researched them all on Trustpilot, and they have very similar ratings:

Gerrards: 4.9 stars overall (5 star - 92%, 1 star <1%)
HGM: 4.9 stars overall (5 star - 96%, 1 star <1%)
Atkinsons: 4.9 stars overall (5 star - 93%, 1 star <1%)

I'm struggling to decide which dealer to buy from, and I wondered if anyone has any helpful thoughts on these three companies?

I have used both Hattons and Atkinsons not had a problem with either. Both quick delivery and well packed

No... And the website does not instil confidence or trust if you ask me.

That is just my personal view.

Nope never heard of them, but when it comes to buying gold I only use well known company with a good reputation

I got my gold 1/4 oz Queen's Beasts from Atkinsons and was very happy with them. I did have to go through a customer id process initially, but after that it could not have been a smoother process. I would happily go back to them.

I went with Atkinsons as they seemed to be most popular. It was quite exhilarating, because as I was entering my details, I was also keeping an eye on spot which was going up and down like a yoyo! I feel I picked the right moment, however, when spot was £1,575.37. The coin cost £404.28 (a few £s less than Wednesday when I started looking), and you may find this hard to believe after what I said about preferring QEII to KCIII, and wanting purity, but I chose a KCIII 2022 Memorial Sov in the end. I want to do the Marmite test on this, so I'll know the way forward from here. Also, I really like the pretty design on the reverse!

I have bought from Atkinsons once, and Hattons about 3 times. No issues with either. Although with the bank holiday weekend you will have to wait longer to get it. Good choice with the sovereign. Another dealer to consider is Tavex. Excellent service and packaged in a box with a foam tray.

They don’t have a big selection but stock the current bullion coins. Very competitive. I researched them a lot before buying. Scandinavian bullion dealer with an office in London. Fast delivery and they give you a courtesy call to let you know they have posted it. Another trusted company is the Britannia Coin Company. I have bought loads from them.

Well done! I like that sovereign too, I did get the queen's platinum jubilee sovereign so the pair do go together very well

Thanks @tray , that’s actually the next one on my list! It seems quite scarce at the moment though and I’m concerned it’ll be even harder to find when I’ve saved up again…

Pre owned from dealers are usually fine

Yes I have it was fine
I got both of these from billion by post. It usually says in a description the condition of the coins never had a problem with them and bought many

with them

@tray, I'm with you. I'm not a fan of George and the dragon - it just seems a bit bland to me Wink
