I have not been a fan of the Perth Mint's series, as they are too stylised for my taste, but they are very well put together. I am collecting the EIC Goddesses (my Hera from you know who should get here tomorrow), and I also have the proof version. I do think it's lovely, but agree with you that the peacocks are a bit out of balance with the depiction of Hera. Nice peacocks though! The next in the series comes out in proof in November, so we'll see then whose portrait is on the obverse. It's Eos, goddess of the dawn, in a chariot drawn by three horses. Again, it's a bit unbalanced between horses and goddess, but quite spectacular.

Perhaps the artist prefers animals. I don't think it has any ulterior meaning.

I understand what you mean and they had to do something different from the Perth Mint. So I can see why they focused on the peacock.

Yes, that could well be so. It'll be interesting to see how the series develops. When it launched, the website gave the impression that the series wouldn't be confined to Greek and Roman goddesses, and the norse goddess Freya's chariot is drawn by cats. I would like to see that.

More than you think.

I suppose it depends on the chariot mass, the size/type of cat and the terrain incline and roughness.

Now if it were a hover chariot that would be far easier for the wee felines...

I think you're over-thinking this. These are giant Norwegian cats in the service* of a goddess, there are unlikely to be difficulties of a physical sort. Any problems would lie in the nature of cats, ie aware of their own past divinity, totally bloody-minded and refusing to acknowledge any control whatsoever. The motive force could likely be fired up by having a mouse running in front and being chased by the cats. Either that or a tuna steak on a long pole dangling in front of their noses. Not terribly dignified though.

The answer is you will never know. Training a cat to pull anything .. LOL good luck. If you used a big cat, chances are your dinner.

1. I agree, irrelevant. Also mystifying: probably some cultural icon that we know nothing about.
2. Folklore said nothing about a carrot. Chariot, now, is a different matter.
3. Some day the English speaking world will learn the difference between 'your' and 'you're'. @Admin meant the latter, but in his defence he has English as a second language. (I might have been nicer if he hadn't made that comment about a spray of water).

I've been on holiday last two weeks, we had a week in Wales, should have been hiking but the weather was rubbish so we went in mines instead and shopping. This week spent most of it on Dartmoor weather great too good to be in
I did get 3 very nice sovereigns and a double just before the queen died so didn't pay silly money
But I have still been checking in on the site

Amongst many other packages. I have been busy all night doing packages. I have one more to do that is my precious, my pride and joy and means soo much to me.

Little bit of an update on the EIC Goddesses. I was having a browse on the website, and the introduction has now changed to talk about Demeter, Artemis, Aphrodite and Hecate, as well as Hera and Eos. So it looks as though it is all going to be Greek after all.

Yeah, its all Greek to me too.
