Just wondering if anyone had ever been to the Yorkshire coin fair at cedar court hotel Huddersfield before. There is on at the end of July and didn’t know whether to go or not.

Hello @Gail McG . I've never been to any coin fairs, but the Cedar Court does a lot of this kind of thing, and it is easy to get to from the motorway. I looked at the Fair website, and see that the list of dealers isn't going to be published until the week before, so it's hard to judge at this stage whether the fair would have anything of interest. In principle it would be a day out, but I'm not about to keep my diary clear at this stage.

Would you have any recommendations for any that are worth going to?

Hi @Gail McG. I would if I wasn't hundreds of miles away - out of curiosity more than anything. I've never been to a coin fair. It will be interesting to hear what you think of it, if you do decide to go Very Happy

I’m still 50/50 whether I will go. I guess only bonus is it’s only 30mins from me so it isn’t a lot to loose if it’s rubbish. If I do go though will let you guys know how it went (not holding too much hope tho) 😂

Definitely go and tell us what you brought
We use to have one 3-4 times a year then the internet took over so it went to once a year then it all stop with COVID
It's how I started going through buckets of coins with father with a list of what he wanted

I've had another look, and I might go. It isn't too far away and only a quid to get in so not much lost provided I remember to register the car on arrival so the parking people don't nab me. I will have a look at the list of sellers though, as I am only interested in post-2000 silver, and if it's pouring down I may well have a rethink - it's a miserable journey in heavy rain.

Is that the one at the racecourse? It's a bit further for me, but I do go to York from time to time. I might have an introduction at Huddersfield first though.

York is MUCH closer to me.

I might have to go there instead of making a 150 mile round trip.

Well, I went. Eventually. Not the experience I had hoped for, but that had nothing to do with the fair. I had got it into my head that the times were 10.00 to 16.00: it was actually 09.30 to 14.00. The correct times were on the internet, so entirely my fault. The morning turned out to be a bit of a disaster in terms of an early start, and it was half past one when I arrived. By that time most of the sellers had left, and there were only a couple left that had anything that I was remotely interested in. At least I wasn't charged an entry fee!
On the plus side, one of the two sellers had a selection of some very nice RAM coins and there was a set of bird coins that I loved. Unfortunately, he didn't have a card machine and I didn't have enough cash. I phoned this morning and emailed my details, and am now waiting for him to get back to me. The other seller was really only selling Royal Mint proofs, so I didn't spend much time there.
Obviously, I don't know what the others were selling since they'd flown the coop, but the venue is only about half an hour away, and traffic on Sundays is pretty light, so I might have a look at the fair at the end of August.
Did you go @Gail McG

Hi sorry, didn’t get to go in the end we went over to Ireland & was a mad rush. From what you say though I may also take a look if there is one in August. Try go early tbh I’m surprised finished so early I would have thought it be on most of the afternoon.

I will just have to hope that I will not be in pain on X day or can get someone to come with me and drive.. York is about 40 minutes away and not far but then there is walking around. And no I refuse to use my wheelchair.

So I have to be on my very best day to go.. I really do want to go ..

Well, the next fair at Huddersfield is coming up this Sunday (27th August). I'm planning to go, and hope I get there early enough to see what it's all about. Fingers crossed.

Well, I went - and this time I got there earlier. Given my collecting choices, there wasn't too much to interest me, and I don't know enough about numismatics generally to judge whether something is a bargain or a ripoff, so I didn't get anything this month. I did have a chat with a couple of sellers though, and it was a good drive out over the tops, so not a wasted time at all.
Lots and lots of pre-decimal British coins, and a fair bit of gold. Pretty much all cash sales though, avoiding bank charges is very important.  Coin Fair -Huddersfield 1f638 One seller specialised in Royal Mint proofs, but none of his stuff was priced, which is always a bit of a turn off for me. The chap I saw last month, who had a lot of RAM coins wasn't there today. I had a long chat with a chap from the Coinery, which is an auction house that does wish lists. I've emailed one over. I may well go again, but I'll give it a while.

That sounds like an exhilarating outing TCM... Rain and wind included.Very Happy I went to one numismatics show and couldn't figure out one coin from the other. Just not into it.

It was good @Periodic Table , and the rain was only on the way back. The drive over was good: I love the moorland and it's spectacular in the sun. I'm the same as you with numismatics - I buy coins that I see as little works of art, not date runs of halfpennies. Each to their own.
